The Photographic Library of the "Circle"
The Photographic Library of the "Circle" started as a personal collection of Platon Rivellis in 1977. From 1988 it was encorporated in the assets of the newly founded "Circle" and since then it continued being enriched until 2007, when its acquisitions reached a total of almost 4,000 volumes. Many of them are priceless and out of print
This Library has been the most important teacher of Platon Rivellis and his students all these years. The difficulties of its maintainance and enrichment, in combination with the close and most friendly collaboration of the "Circle" with the Benaki Museum led (in 2008) to the donation of the whole Library to the Photographic Archive of the Benaki Museum. A part of the Library is already available to the public (to everyone interested and no more only to the members of the "Circle") and rather soon the appropriate place in the Museum will be found to accomodate the whole of the library. The "Circle"'s site contains the full list of the Library's volumes divided in three categories: Monographs, Collections/Theoretical, Technical. The code numbers refer to the numbering of the Library when it belonged to the "Circle". The Library's new acquisitions, when the Museum will start buying books again for it, will be also announced on the site.
