Since the year 2001, the president of the "Circle", Platon Rivellis, has chosen to make his permanent home in Syros. Already, since 1999, the advanced summer seminars of the "Circle" had been moved from Paros to Syros. It was thus decided to construct a building that would meet the needs both of a place of residence and a seminar space.
This building was designed and supervised by the "Circle's" vice-president Nana Karamanghioli and was inaugurated in June of 2001. That is when the Syros seminars began, which like those in Athens are officially organised by "Photohoros". Apart from the advanced summer fifteen-day seminar on Photography and Critique which takes place at the beginning of July, one whole weekend a month is dedicated to a winter introductory seminar on creative photography and another weekend to photography or film seminars. During the year other, usually four-day, seminars on film and photography are organised.
The planning is underway for the founding of an organisation to be known as "Syros Photography Circle", with its first members being the first students to complete the introductory seminar in Syros.
The property where the "Circle's" ‘Stone House' is built is in a location, on Syros, known as "Amarantos" (a name which is evidently very old and almost forgotten on the island). It is located at the exact point where Manna ends (note: the reference here is to Kato Manna) and Vari begins. After the turn off for Azolimnos and as soon as the nightclub "Neraïda" appears in the distance, a small, concrete country road, a total of 800m in length, leads to the property. The estate overlooks the sea and has a total area of 6,200m², surrounded by dry-stone walls. To the South one can see Paros and Antiparos and to the North Ermoupolis and Tinos. "Amarantos" is located on the east side of the island, at a distance of about 4-5 km from the centre of Ermoupolis, the island's capital.
The ground floor, which is 250m², constitutes the living quarters, which are also used by those participating in the seminars. Two rooms on the ground floor and two in the basement are used to put up students, helpers and friends. The outdoor spaces, the verandas, kitchen, the auxiliary space of the rustic oven and the barbeque are used during breaks by the seminar participants and members for out-of-class discussions.
All of the basement (also approximately 250m²) is used for seminars and has been built especially for them. There is a large (120m²) fully equipped seminar room, a large darkroom and other auxiliary spaces etc.
